Vero Workplace Giving - Blackwood
Blackwood Camp
On Anzac Day 2006, Blackwood began a six-day bush adventure in the Blue Mountains and David Mitchell from Vero Group Reinsurance volunteered to assist.
The bush adventure is a challenge for the Blackwood students. Led by members of the Australian School of Mountaineering, students enjoy activities that stretch their skills and encourage team participation. These include abseiling, rock climbing and night navigation.
The experience allows for social development and an intense bonding of the group as the students and staff must rely on each other for help and support.
David helped with first aid requirements, setting up the campsite and preparing dinner. "My time with the students at the Blackwood camp gave me a greater understanding of some of the difficulties they face at school and at home", David said.
