2014 Winners and Finalists


The 2014 RM Advancer Awards were announced at the Eureka Tower in Melbourne on Thursday 23 October. The night celebrated an exceptional group of Australia's large organisations who have demonstrated excellence in risk management. The theme for this years awards was “Elevating risk management to new heights" This was realised by the exceptional group of companies and their excellent achievements in risk management. The judging panel were extremely impressed with the quality of the nominations this year. This reflects not only the high standard of risk management that is being undertaken, but also the effort brokers and clients have put into having their achievements recognised through the RM Advancer Awards. Winners will receive consulting hours from Vero's expert team of risk engineers.

Property Risk Management Award Winner

Buller Ski Lifts

For their systems, processes and activities undertaken to minimise loss and/or damage arising from property ownership.

Comments from the Judge's:

The Judges' awarded Buller Ski Lifts for their holistic approach to Property Risk Management, noting the great use of technology to reduce uncertainty in an environment highly susceptible to damage from extreme weather conditions. One innovative risk management practice employed by Buller Ski Lifts is the use of snow making machines to combat fires in the dry summer months. This practice has saved the resort on at least one occasion. The judges were impressed with the way Buller Ski Lifts work with special consideration to protecting the environment (flora & fauna), including some endangered species.

For their systems, processes and activities undertaken to minimise their organisation's legal liability and injury to third parties.

Comments from the Judge's:
The Judges' commented on the comprehensive risk management framework that has been developed and is used to make key risk decisions. The nomination highlighted increased reporting and recording of incidents, a good incident to conversion rate and the embedded safety culture of the group. GPT Group's Sympathy Without Admission Program was recognised as an exceptional post-accident procedure and their use of an online tool to monitor words on social media and identify liability risk management issues.

Motor Risk Management Award Winner


For their systems, processes and activities undertaken to minimise loss, injury, damage and/or legal liability arising from the use of motor vehicles.

MAXAM's winning submission


Comments from the Judge's:
Driving long distances with bulk explosives requires exceptional risk management. MAXAM's nomination demonstrated a comprehensive risk management framework showing a good use of technology by streamlining the company's Hazard, Incident, Accident and Suggestion system and allowing the reporting of real time suggestions by drivers. The use of GPS tracking and electronic pre – start assessments all contribute to driver and vehicle safety. A focus on Safety Management Systems and international accreditation in this area contributed to the judges decision to award MAXAM the winner of the Motor Vehicle category for 2014.
