Q: Hi Rebecca, thank you for your time. Please you tell us more about yourself and the latest achievement you are most proud of.

A: It is an absolute pleasure. I am the Managing Director of Austbrokers ABS based in Sydney, I have been in the insurance profession for 25 years. I have a strong passion for the profession and am incredibly proud of my career to date, particularly the business that myself and our wonderful team have built over the past 14 years.

One of my proudest moments in the past months has been the internal promotions we have been able to offer some of our ABS team members, promoting within the business means we have a great staff development program and have been able to reward them for their efforts.

Q: What was your first reaction when you won the national Young Broker of the Year award in 2010? Do you remember what went through your mind at that moment?

A: My first reaction was shock and excitement at the same time. I recall the shock given there were five state finalists who were all so very talented and deserving, and I was very fortunate and grateful to be the recipient of the award. That moment of elation and pride cemented a commitment to myself, Vero and NIBA on how I would best represent the award which was very important to me.

Q: How has winning the award and networking with other broking leaders impacted your professional journey?

A: The award certainly gave me a lot of exposure in the insurance market, I received many well wishes of congratulations. I wanted to continue developing my relationships and have always remained very curious and interested in continued networking opportunities. The insurance profession is one that is reliant on good relationships, and building a strong personal brand is very important to me.

Q: Vero and NIBA continue to invest in the professional development of young brokers and recognise their achievements through the Young Broker of the Year award. How does the next generation benefit from this support?

A: Vero and NIBA have made an immeasurable investment into this award, which I know is so well recognised across our profession. The next generation will continue to have the privilege and opportunity to nominate for the award, It is important that the next generation has not only the knowledge and talent to nominate for the award but also the confidence to do so.

Q: Last but not least - If you could share one secret to success with the next generation of insurance brokers, what would you tell them?

A: Do the job before you get the job! And if you’re good enough you’re old enough, there are no limits to your success.
